About the Author
Thich Nhat Hanh was a Zen master, spiritual leader, poet, and peace activist revered around the world for his pioneering teachings on mindfulness, ethics, and peace. He applied Buddhist insights to every aspect of society, including education, business, technology, and the environment.
Thich Nhat Hanh began teaching mindfulness in the West in the early 1970s. His 1975 book The Miracle of Mindfulness presented new practices he had developed to inspire his students and social workers in Vietnam to help them avoid burnout amid the turmoil and challenges of war. He published more than 100 titles in English, ranging from classic manuals on meditation, mindfulness, and engaged Buddhism to poems, children’s stories, and commentaries on ancient Buddhist texts. Thich Nhat Hanh’s books encapsulate this gentle and humble monk’s lifetime of teaching, scholarship, creativity, and spiritual discovery.
Marisol Ortega is a first-generation Mexican American designer, illustrator, and letterer based in Tacoma, Washington. Her vibrant illustrations of flora and fauna play with texture, linework, bold color palettes, and organic shapes, reflecting her exploration of her cultures. She pulls inspiration from childhood memories of visiting her abuela in Michoacán, Mexico.
